What is the best way to remove the smell and flavor from a stainless steel beer barrel that has been used for root beer? I have a few 1/4 bbls that I want to use for beer again.

You might try washing one with dilute laundry bleach, e.g., Chlorox. I know from experience that undiluted bleach will corrode stainless steel cooking utensils, so be careful.

From just about every home brewing site on the web, they say you can not get it out. Most say to dedicate certain kegs to just rootbeer.
