Since writing that review, I became familiar with the flavor compound, ethyl salicylate. Most people describe its flavor as, sweet, wintergreen, spicy and anisic, but, due to a genetic abnormality, to me, it tastes like walnut and wintergreen. Thus, the likely cause of my bad reaction to Meijer Root Beer is that the manufacturer replaced methyl salicylate with ethyl salicylate. It would likely taste better to other people. See
