Greg from NYC here. Lifelong fan of root beer ever since I had A&W from a tap at the drive-in as a kid. Right now I've been trying to keep supplied with Henry Weinhard's and Bulldog. A&W when I run out. Shipping kills me, most of the vendors are on the West coast. Anyone know where I can find the big glass mugs to put a frost on?

Welcome, Greg! It shouldn't be hard to find glass mugs at department stores, Walmart or stores like Pottery Barn. But why not get a really cool "authentic" mug with a logo on eBay? Or, many brewers sell new logo mugs (e.g. http://sprecherbrewery.com, which used to carry a nice mug with their excellent brand's logo on it).

Hi, Greg (and everyone else). I'm Karen, also new, and also in NYC. I don't know of anyone here in Manhattan who carries those brands, unfortunately, but there's a beverage dealer on W. 23rd just west of Tenth Ave. on the north side of the street. They carry Saranac, which I like, as well as Boylan's Creamy Red Birch Beer; they're right in front of the crosstown bus and most of their space is devoted to beer, in case you're interested. Fairway carries Ithaca which I also like, and Zabar's carries Ithaca and Boylan's Original Birch Beer. Maybe we could persuade some of these establishments to carry some out-of-town brands?
eBay is very good for mugs, BTW; the only problem is the cost of shipping because glass is heavy.

Glass Mug: The next time you stop at an A&W drive-in, ask to buy a mug. That's how I got mine. There's a very well-run A&W in Cortland. The food is good, the root beer is great, and there's a miniature golf course right next door!

Try some of those places mentioned by karen, and prime the pump a bit. Ask them to order a case of Rollie's for you. Do this a couple months in a row, and I would be surprised if they didn't start carrying it.
