Dear Mr. Kguske,

I want to discuss rum because I have a lot to say about it.

No, but you could talk about root beer schnapps.

Interestingly, the last brand is made in the Netherlands. Then, shouldn't Dutch root beer also exist?

Anyway, how can someone who appreciates root beer, not appreciate rum?

I do appreciate rum (especially from Guatemala). But web filters, search engines, and other important entities get nervous when sites talk about such things - especially without requiring COPPA compliance, etc., and I'd prefer to stay off that radar.

I don't understand. What is the worst case scenario?

There are several liquor forums usually as a subcategory of cooking or food forums. See:

http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?s=96b7957dc14830a9a9d62853e8b272f1&showforum=88

Unfortunately, I am banned from all the free ones.

If you like rum, I suggest that you try Batavia Arrack which, after being unavailable for decades in the USA, is now available.

Here is the bottler in the Netherlands:

http://www.alpenz.com/

Under try/buy you can find a wholesale distributor in your area, phone them, and get a retailer in your area. In Chicago, Sam's Wine and Spirits has is for $30 (750 ml bottle).

Whereas rum is made from molasses, Batavia Arrack is made from molasses and malted rice. Batavia Arrack is nearly colorless and has a stronger aroma than any dark rum. It has a strong rum flavor that makes it suitable as a flavoring in sweets like egg nog, rum balls, cakes, cookies, etc. For this purpose, in my opinion, it is better than dark rums such as Gosling's Black Seal and Myers's.
